Utah State University Van rolls killing 7

Posted 10:47 p.m., MST, April 18, 2007

Tremonton, Utah - A Utah State University van lost control as the left rear tire blew, violently throwing the van spinning and rolling off the road. This devastating accident at 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon just west of Tremonton on I-84 was described vividly by a witness Jennie Smith, she said " all I could see was a giant dust cloud, and people were being thrown out of a van." All were ejected from the van including the driver Evan Parker, Lt. Michaud reported that no one was wearing seat belts at the time of the accident; leaving all to speculate whether this University sanctioned field trip, could have ended differently. Lt. Michaud went on to say, "this is by far the worst accident I've seen in 15 years." Luckily medical unites did arrive timely to the scene, quickly attending to all the students. Four critically injured students were rushed to near by hospitals, as the rest were pronounced dead at the scene. A driver of a following car Kyle Holden said,"as I passed the van I saw the drivers rear tire blow out of control throwing the van into a spin which just rolled over and over." "I don't think anything could have been done to prevent it, it all happened so quickly." The President of Utah State University Stan L. Albrecht said, today is a day of morning, this tragedy for our institution effects everyone of us."

Steve, I liked especially how you pursued the angle of seat belts and if it was university sanctioned, I forgot to do that, and it made your story immensely better.
